Reflexology is a complementary wellbeing therapy involving the application of gentle, controlled pressure to specific areas of the feet, worked with specialised thumb and finger techniques.

Many clients choose reflexology for relaxation, rest and general wellbeing. The exact mechanisms are not fully established scientifically, and claims that a specific point on the foot can diagnose or directly treat a particular organ or disease are not made.

At Health Pod Frodsham, Reflexology is provided as a complementary wellbeing therapy. It does not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions and does not replace medical care.

What happens during a session

  • You are positioned comfortably and asked to remove your shoes and socks; the therapist assesses the feet for anything affecting suitability.
  • Controlled pressure and specialised reflexology movements are applied across areas of the feet, adapted to your comfort.
  • You may notice areas that feel more sensitive — this does not provide a diagnosis. Many clients feel deeply relaxed, warm or sleepy.
  • Tell your therapist if the pressure is uncomfortable or if you feel dizzy, nauseous or unwell.

Potential benefits

  • Relaxation and a sense of calm and wellbeing
  • Time for rest and self-care
  • Stress management as part of a wider wellbeing routine
  • A relaxing, non-invasive treatment experience

Who may benefit

  • Adults who feel stressed or find it difficult to switch off
  • Those who want to prioritise rest and relaxation
  • Clients who prefer a non-massage-based therapy focused on the feet
  • Clients following a wider wellbeing programme

Aftercare

  • Take your time when standing up and maintain normal, regular hydration
  • Rest if you feel tired and avoid excessive alcohol immediately after treatment
  • Continue your normal foot-care routine
  • If you feel dizzy or unusually sleepy, do not drive until you feel fully safe to do so

Before you book

Your wellbeing comes first. Everyone completes a consultation and suitability screening before their first treatment, so we can make sure it’s right for you. The notes below help you know what to tell us.

  • Fever or acute illness
  • Significant open wounds, burns or unsuitable broken skin on the treatment area
  • A recent acute foot or ankle injury that requires medical assessment

May need a chat or clearance first

  • Significant swelling or oedema, or recent surgery
  • Current cancer treatment or complex medical treatment

These lists are not exhaustive. Treatment may be adapted, postponed or declined on safety grounds, and this therapy does not replace advice from your GP or healthcare professional.

Consultation first. All clients complete a consultation and suitability screening before their first treatment. This is a complementary wellbeing therapy — it supports relaxation, comfort and general wellbeing and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, advice or treatment. Individual responses vary.

Frequently asked questions

Can reflexology diagnose or treat a health condition?

No. Tenderness in an area does not provide a medical diagnosis and should not be interpreted as proof of disease. Reflexology supports relaxation and wellbeing and does not replace medical care.

How long is a treatment?

A Reflexology treatment is approximately 60 minutes. Your first appointment may take slightly longer to allow for consultation and aftercare advice.

I'm pregnant — can I have reflexology?

Please always disclose pregnancy before treatment. Reflexology may need to be adapted depending on the stage of pregnancy and your health, and it is not promoted as a way to induce labour or treat pregnancy complications.
