Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised, gentle manual therapy that uses light, slow, rhythmic skin-stretching movements to encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid. Unlike traditional massage, it does not work on the muscles — firm pressure is not required, and deep pressure can actually reduce the effect — so MLD is a very light, relaxing therapy.

The lymphatic system helps maintain fluid balance by collecting excess fluid from the tissues and returning it to the circulation. When lymph movement slows, fluid can collect, causing feelings of heaviness or puffiness. Many clients choose MLD as part of a wider wellbeing routine.

At Health Pod Frodsham, MLD is provided as a complementary wellbeing treatment. It does not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions and does not replace medical care. Individual responses vary.

Frequently asked questions

How is MLD different from a normal massage?

MLD is very gentle and uses light, slow, rhythmic movements rather than deep pressure. It is designed to support the movement of lymphatic fluid.

Do I need a consultation?

Yes. All clients complete a consultation and suitability screening before their first treatment, and treatment may be adapted where appropriate.
