Auricular Acupuncture is a complementary therapy involving the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile, single-use needles into selected points on the outer ear.
At Health Pod Frodsham, treatment may include a structured five-point ear protocol where appropriate. Fine needles are placed just beneath the skin and remain in place while you rest quietly, commonly for around 30 to 40 minutes.
Auricular Acupuncture is provided as a complementary wellbeing therapy. It does not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions and does not replace medical care. The evidence for acupuncture varies and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.
What happens during a session
- You are seated or positioned comfortably and the treatment is explained before it begins.
- The ears are assessed and prepared following the practitioner's infection-control procedure.
- Very fine, sterile, single-use needles are gently inserted into selected points. You may feel a brief sharp sensation, tingling or mild tenderness — some clients feel very little.
- The needles remain in place while you rest, then are removed and disposed of immediately in an approved sharps container.

Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
You may feel a brief sharp sensation, tingling, warmth or mild tenderness as a needle is inserted. Some clients feel very little. Tell your therapist immediately if you feel faint, dizzy or unwell.
How long is an appointment?
A standalone Auricular Acupuncture appointment is approximately 45 minutes, with the needles commonly retained for around 30 to 40 minutes.
Should I mention my medication?
Yes. Please tell your therapist if you take anticoagulants or blood-thinning medication, have a bleeding disorder, or have any ear or skin condition. Never stop or alter prescribed medication because of acupuncture without speaking to your prescriber.
