A consultation and suitability screening are completed before your first treatment. See Before you book below.

Red Light Therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, is a non-invasive light-based therapy using red and near-infrared wavelengths, delivered at Health Pod Frodsham on a full-body red light bed. It is different from ultraviolet tanning equipment and is not intended to produce a suntan.

It is offered as a complementary wellbeing treatment and does not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions. Sessions are available at 10, 15, 20 and 30 minutes; the right length depends on your consultation, previous exposure, individual suitability and our treatment or course protocol. More exposure is not automatically better, so sessions follow the device and clinic protocol. Results vary between individuals.

Before you book

Your wellbeing comes first. Everyone completes a consultation and suitability screening before their first treatment, so we can make sure it’s right for you. The notes below help you know what to tell us.

May not be suitable if you have

  • Known photosensitivity or a condition causing abnormal sensitivity to light
  • An active severe skin reaction, significant burn or unsuitable skin condition in the exposure area
  • Uncontrolled photosensitive epilepsy or a history of light-triggered seizures, particularly with pulsing or flashing modes
  • An acute illness or unstable medical condition, or an inability to give informed consent

May need a chat or clearance first

  • Photosensitising medication or treatment, until suitability has been checked with the prescriber or medication information
  • A significant eye condition or severe light sensitivity where eye safety has not been medically assessed
  • Active cancer, current cancer treatment or recent radiotherapy affecting skin sensitivity — medical or oncology-team clearance may be required
  • A history of skin cancer — please tell us at screening
  • Pregnancy — please tell us; treatment may be postponed or medical clearance requested in line with the manufacturer's guidance
  • Disclose all medications, supplements and skin conditions; treatment may be adapted, postponed or clearance requested

These lists are not exhaustive. Treatment may be adapted, postponed or declined on safety grounds, and this therapy does not replace advice from your GP or healthcare professional.

Consultation first. All clients complete a consultation and suitability screening before their first treatment. This is a complementary wellbeing therapy — it supports relaxation, comfort and general wellbeing and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, advice or treatment. Individual responses vary.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a session, and how is the length chosen?

Sessions are available at 10, 15, 20 and 30 minutes. The right length depends on your consultation, previous exposure, individual suitability and our treatment or course protocol. More exposure is not automatically better, so we follow the device and clinic protocol.

Is this the same as a sunbed?

No. Red Light Therapy uses red and near-infrared light (photobiomodulation), not ultraviolet light. It is not tanning, does not produce a suntan and does not protect you from UV exposure.

Will I need to wear eye protection?

Yes. Eye protection is provided and must be worn throughout your session, in line with the bed manufacturer's guidance and our protocol, as bright LED light can be uncomfortable and misuse may risk eye injury.

Do any medications affect suitability?

Some medicines, topical treatments and supplements can increase sensitivity to light. Tell us about everything you take before treatment and whenever it changes. Never stop medication to use the bed — if something may increase light sensitivity, treatment may be postponed until suitability is checked.

Can it be added to other treatments?

Yes. A 10-minute Red Light Therapy add-on is available alongside many treatments, including MLD, massage, facial treatments and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

Do I need a consultation?

Yes, before your first session, disclosing any medical conditions, skin conditions, medications and anything affecting light sensitivity.
